November and February are traditionally my most-despised months, but for obvious reasons, I do not feel my usual hate. For one, it is the month of my son’s birth! *insert OMG face here* For two, I do not have to go to work (I promise I will stop mentioning this in every entry; this will likely happen sometime in mid-March). For three, today is beautiful!
I’ve found that a great way to start my day is by having a bowl of yogurt and granola and then immediately going for a 1/2 hour walk. I wonder how this routine will change once baby arrives? I was thinking I could still probably get out for a quick 20 minute jaunt once he is fed and sleeping again, since Husband is often home in the mornings (today he started work at noon). I would bring baby along with, but don’t feel comfortable doing that in the cold months!
I just really want to make sure I get at least a bit of fresh air and exercise this winter. I can easily see myself hibernating away, wrapped in blankets and eating an abundance of carbohydrates. That doesn’t sound so bad…until even my beloved yoga pants won’t fit! <– Possibly speaking from experience. Possibly.

Along with daily walks, another of my “healthy hopes” is to have either a salad or Green Monster each day. I’ve mostly been having GMs because I’ve been having leftovers for lunch. Today’s lunch consisted of:
- Leftover snobby joe mix on three small slices of rye bread
- Leftover steamed veggies
- Black grapes
- Slice of Jalapeno Havarti cheese
The chocolate chip cookies are calling my name, but I am trying to hold out until my snack of a GM later this afternoon. Will power, where art thou?!!?
My plans for the rest of the day involve:
- Watching Oprah. Portia De Rossi, aka Ellen’s wife, is going to be talking about her experience with anorexia.
- Making Oh She Glow’s chili along with a loaf of quick bread (new recipe! If good, will be sure to share)
- Watching It’s Complicated (got it in the mail this morning via Zip)
- Avoiding Halloween candy like it’s The Plague (except it’s not The Plague, is it? It is actually the complete opposite of The Plague in every single way.)
- Waiting to give birth <– Requisite to-do list item
A Bootsy Paw For Your Enjoyment
Did you miss me? Wait — maybe don’t answer that!
First of all, I must apologize for my two-month absence from this blog, and with nary an explanation to boot! Honestly, the past three months have been the most challenging in my professional career and I honestly didn’t have the time, energy, or desire to post about food or frugality or anything of the sort. I basically wanted to vegetate in front of the television with a cat on each side of me and a giant cup of tea in my hands. This is what has gotten me from August 22nd to October 27th.
I’m inspired to begin writing today for many reasons!
1. I am done work! Today was my first day off. Indeed, my next day of work is set for November 14th, 2011 because…
2. I am 9 months pregnant! My pregnancy has been a dream come true (knock on wood). I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. My due date is November 6th so now the waiting truly begins!
A Whole Lot of Woman
3. I have been inspired by a great friend of mine who writes a blog about her life, specifically her marathon training. She is an inspiration, even though the desire to run a marathon myself continues to be, uh, nil 😉 Check out her blog as I make an appearance in the latest entry!
Even though I am only one day into my leave, all sorts of thoughts are running through my head. I am back to writing down all of my expenses, thinking about what sorts of things to bake, and making preparations for the arrival of my son. I’m not sure how the maintenance of the blog will be affected once he is here, but I think this will be a great project to focus on for the next year.
I will try to post once a day, although may miss a few days here and there (especially that day that a person, um, comes out of me). I won’t take a picture of everything I eat, or even most things I eat, just the really, really awesome things I eat. My focus will continue to be on health, frugality, and trying to live an enriching life that is a little bit mainstream and a little bit hippie. I am sure I will also talk lots about becoming a mom! I will be cloth diapering, breast-feeding, and baby-wearing. But, no, I will not start smelling of patchouli. I don’t think.
Thanks for stopping by!
My inclination now when writing a post title is to just write the name of the meal I am having, i.e. “Dinner”. Way to state the obvious, right? I feel like my creativity is slowly draining out of me. Perhaps it is all going to the little boy I am currently creating? Yes, I will go with that theory.
I never did have the apple on my way out of work today. I saved myself for the delicious orange crush I got to drink as part of my glucose tolerance test! It tasted exactly like orange crush and I had to jug it really quickly because they needed to draw my blood exactly an hour after I drank it and they closed at 5 (it was 3:50 when I drank it). Much tastier than that chalky drink they give you before a CT scan! I’m not sure how the test goes. I will probably get the results in two weeks at my next midwife appointment.
I have passed that milestone where my appointments go from every 4 weeks to every 2 weeks. Plus I got a binder! And they talked to me about what to bring in my hospital bag. I’m allowed to bring and eat food! And hubby can bring a swimsuit to take into the jacuzzi with me. He didn’t realize we would have access to a jacuzzi.
Anyway, for dinner tonight I had a combination of leftovers: Pizza (with broccoli, mushrooms, and feta), corn, and corn chipotle salad. It is that time of year when fresh corn is abundant. I have no problem with that.
We bought a gigantic ice cream cake for the barbecue on Saturday but grossly overestimated the number of people who would be eating the cake (the person whose birthday we were celebrating didn’t arrive until after 10 pm!). Thus, we have lots and lots of ice cream cake left. Again, I have no problem with this.
It’s a strawberry cheesecake blizzard cake! Humina.
I will probably spend the rest of the evening with a cup of decaf green tea. After the rigors of my social weekend, I am ready to chillax!
I have a fun post for you this evening! A little bit of this with a little bit of that and a puppy and pregnant woman thrown in for good measure!
I have never met this dog, but a friend is puppy-sitting him and sent me pictures. Look at that face! I deemed it “blog-worthy”.
This afternoon, I decided to splurge and buy myself a coffee! I got half decaf/half bold from Starbs because I wanted the caffeinated boost without giving my little guy too much of a jolt! See, already I am an excellent, self-less mom 😉
Starbucks is my favourite coffee ever, but its caffeine content is outrageous. If you read Tina’s blog, you can see what I mean! I am happy to do the half decaf/half regular combo.
In the elevator on my way back to work, I caught a glimpse of my visage and was shocked to see the gigantic Santa belly staring back at me. I mean, I know my belly is big. It’s got a 2 pound baby all up in there. But today it just seems extra-big. I had to take a picture for posterity!
I took this photo in my work washroom. Classy!
I was walking down the hall at work and a coworker who doesn’t usually work in this office made a comment to another coworker and said, “Gosh, Robyn is getting really fat, eh?”. It made me die laughing. I had to be resuscitated just to write this entry (?) 😉
The growing belly will never cease to fascinate me. We spend our whole, adult, female lives trying to make it smaller, flatter, firmer etc., so to have these precious nine months in which I get to proudly stick it out, and flaunt my rotund self is a real breath of fresh air. As well, when I look at my 6 week pregnancy photo, I stare at my stomach and reminisce about how flat it was. Ahhhhh, you don’t know how good you’ve got it until it’s gone…or expanded!
Who is this skinny woman?
Anyway, after the delectable cup of coffee, I had a peach (unpictured) and a Dark Mocha Almond granola bar!
Husband and friends spent the day at the zoo (lucky!) and would be arriving home a couple of hours after I did, so I knew dinner would be late (for me, anything after 6:00 pm is late!). I knew I had to satiate myself the best way I know how: A Green Monster!
This puppy contains:
- 1 cup 1% milk
- 1 sliced banana
- The last of the “california” fruit mix, which ended up being predominantly strawberries
It really kept me full as I shucked corn and prepared a make-shift pasta salad.
I really didn’t know how this salad was going to turn out, but I think it turned out pretty good! I just boiled a cup of macaroni, added a can of drained, rinsed black beans, some cubed mozzarella, and added as many fresh vegetables as I had which included spinach, broccoli, mushrooms, orange pepper, tomato, and zucchini. For a dressing, I used the recipe I use when I make my Greek Pasta Salad. Not bad for winging it!
The others had steak, but I stuck to my tried-and-true veggie burger. Since I was also having corn and the macaroni, I opted out of the bun and just spread some honey barbecue sauce on top. We ate out in the backyard and it made me think I should really eat every dinner out there (instead of in front of the TV where I may or may not consume most of my meals *ahem*).
And two sweet pickles to complete the meal.
I was pretty excited about what they brought home for dessert:
With chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream!
Now I am digesting this load of sugar and watching TV. We are just hanging low tonight and I hope to make it somewhat early to bed. We shall see!
