Best day ever?

Today I am meeting up with friends to go see Sex and the City 2!!!  I am excited, even though this movie has received horrible reviews and is based on materialism and vanity.  I.  Just.  Don’t.  Care.  It is total fun, escapist, girly goodness.  Seeing it with girlfriends makes it even better.  I saw the first movie with my husband and he just had a look of mild bemusement throughout.  After the movie, we are going out for dinner at Fresh!  This is a vegetarian mecca and definitely my favourite restaurant in the city.  I’ve been there close to a million times (true story) and yet I still have a hard time choosing from the menu.  Check it out if you want to salivate.

Well, this morning, I woke up early and headed to the grocery store.  I tried to buy more organic produce.  I stuck to my usual apples and spinach, but I did branch out and buy some organic broccoli!  I couldn’t get myself to buy the organic peppers, though.  $4.99 a pound?  Yikes.

I shop at Loblaw’s and they have an awesome organic/natural foods section.  I almost bought some Ezekiel bread on sale, but it was $4.99 too.  When my usual whole grain loaf is around $2.50, it’s hard to spend twice as much.  I have always wanted to try that kind, though.  I did buy a Vega Whole Foods Raw Energy Bar!

It was $2.50 and I saw it at my local health store for $4.00 so I knew it was a relatively good deal.  It will make a good snack for this afternoon.

For breakfast this morning, I was craving eggs.  I had a really simple meal of:

  • 2 eggs over easy
  • 1 thin hamburger bun, toasted
  • 2 handfuls of cherries (my first this year!)

I love cherries.

And eggs!  With black pepper, of course.

It is now time for that most sacred of Saturday morning rituals.  That is, to drink coffee and read the newspaper.  I think for lunch I will take advantage of my bounty of bulgur as well as make a green monster using the almond milk I purchased today (which works out perfectly since I want to get a latte this afternoon.  I feel like there’s a fine line between not enough dairy and TOO MUCH dairy, y’know?).

Happy Caturday!

Eggs + toast + fruit is my favourite breakfast EVER. I’ve been really lucky living at home lately because my mom splurges on ezekiel. When it’s me paying, I always go for whatever bakery bread is on special (although – both are equally good!)

Um, I love your blog, and I love that one of your cats has a PhD. I’m moving to Toronto at the end of the month!!

That is awesome! When are you moving to Toronto and to what neighbourhood? I love Toronto food bloggers (and not just because they are a resource for restaurant and grocery store recommendations 🙂

I’m moving to TO from New Brunswick at the end of the month! Have a lovely place in the “heart” of Leslieville. Still working on that job thing though… 😉

Nice! That’s a great neighbourhood – close to downtown but close to the east end and the beach where things are a bit slower paced. I live just east of the beaches and love it. Good luck on the job search! 🙂

Did you know Ezekiel makes cereal? I saw it last night at our local store. Because it was $5/box I didn’t even pick it up to look at the nutrition stats. One day, perhaps… I love the bread!

Yeah, I saw those boxes of Ezekiel cereal in the “natural foods” section of my grocery store today. I picked up a box and it weighed a ton — I love density when it comes to food products. But, yeah, the price deterred me yet again. Some day, Ezekiel will be mine. Some day…

What did you think of SATC2? I thought it was funny and had its moments, but it was long and kind of dragged at times. But it was fun and very girly, which is exactly what I wanted and needed!

Eating well and living frugally does not always come easy, but Lord help me, I am trying! This blog will detail my endeavor to live the best life possible. This will include pictures of my cats, odes to almond butter, and the general miscellany that makes up my life. Enjoy!
